Drum Scape Sequencer

The drum scape sequencer is what I'd consider to be the most extensive piece I've created in the realm of straight "synthesizer". Complete with an 8 part sequencer and my "wireless/switchless" sequencer patch section - which determines what drum part plays when.

The sound has the ability to create all of the sounds that the other drum scapes make (Simian drum scape, impressionist drum scape etc.) which are generally huge and analog drones and drums - However, with added controls over the sound it also has the ability to move deeply into the realm of clicks and cuts style beats and some very interesting high frequency textures.

In addition it has a three part delay section covering extremely tight repeats - tighter than any of the rest of the series. Also Reverse delay and tap tempo delay.

The main features are as follows:

= drum section with three primary waves and white noise

= controls over decay, frequency and a number of non standard controls to create very atypical sounds

= main volume

= 3 part delay with reverse, tight and tap covering a broad range

= delay has standard controls for mix, repeat and time

= 8 part wireless/plugless sequencer section with led indicators

= sequencer section has time control, add part, subtract part, stop and pause

= each of the eight parts has individual level control

= dual 1/4" outputs for stereo effect

= 1/8" jacks for each of the sequencer parts to synch with external gear

= 4x 1/8" jacks for triggering of drum parts

= lamp indicators

= all custom keys and buttons

= custom wood box

= 9v ac power.

I've recorded sounds from this piece, excluding much of what's already been recorded within the series and focusing primarily on the sequencing and clicks and cuts and high freq. stuff that the other pieces don't create. A couple of them were recorded with a simple drone playing along - this nshouldn't distract much from the drum synth as the wave does nothing fancy, but I'll make note of it below. Regarding the DSS - no external effects were added and limited editing was done post recording...So some of these samples are long, and some may have a tendency to be boring to the non minimalist mentality. Also I should mention that none of these recordings are used in conjunction with any other gear ie. modular synths.

dss1.mp3

No drone - straight recording. Melodic. interesting.

dss2.mp3

recorded with sine drone. clicky, cutty, simplistic.

dss3.mp3

no drone - straight recording. a little beat being toyed with and exhibiting the delay a bit by playing the tap tempo on occasion.

dss4.mp3

No drone - straight recording. Getting into some acid stuff and then moving into some of the high frequency - a.m. radio styles.

dss5.1.mp3

No drone - straight recording - part one of two of a 10 minute jam session presenting the harder, noisier end of the DSS.

dss5.2.mp3

And here's part two of the same session.

dss6.mp3

Recorded with light drone. Nice simple clicky beat.

dss7.mp3

recorded with drone. another simple beat. Nice rim shot sounding thing. using the reverse delay more extensively to establish randomnity with the beat.

In addition any interested buyer should see our videos and have a listen to the three Simian Drum Scape videos as this piece is also capable of creating all of those sounds.

Below are some samples all recorded from the impressionist drumscape which is another version of the drum scape with a built in delay. The synth circuit is the same and the drum scape sequencer also has the ability to create all of these sounds.(please set the drab artistic approach aside):

SCAPER

In this recording I sampled (Korg ESX) all sounds from the impressionist Drum Scape, uneffected and arranged them into a track. The sounds remain uneffected, only sequenced. This synth is especially big on the bass and very capable of producing lush pads.

SCAPIST

Here is another track utilizing many of the same sounds as the previous track with the addition of some others, again, all uneffected external from the impressionist. These recordings are meant to give an example of the synths quality of tone and potential. Most of the sounds were randomly recorded, there is much more I could've captured.

DRONE

This is a simple (but long) recording of a drone produced by the impressionist. Very thick, perhaps longer than it should be and yet, unfortunately, not capturing the potential of the piece. oh well. It stands as a good exaple of the richness of the synth.
