The Garden is a very intentional conceptual sound art work. This is something I intend to create on a much larger scale but for the time being, I'm very pleased to have completed this piece as a playable instrument. The sound very much reflects the asthetic - an electric garden with waves growing from the sound field they're created from. The sound board and spouts of wire extending from it are picked up with high sensitivity and run through a series of effects intended to reflect the visual aspect of the whole. Every sprig of string has a unique sound and the Garden can be played as a percussion piece or soundscape generator. There is as much musical potential as there is a potential for strange sounds. The original sounds run through a very digital delay that can be as tight as possible or extended to about 1 1/2 seconds. The feedback can be adusted to generate long perfect extentions of tiny sounds to become waves then captured in long format if desired. This then runs to a wah effect that's been altered to optionally waver so quickly that it reactes directly to the incoming waves as a wave itself - which results in some beautiful intermodulation - or the wah can be used to give more dynamic to the original source.
