SEE OUR BLOG FOR UPDATES: FOLKTEK.BLOGSPOT.COM

We do what we can - give you as many details as possible, take nice photos, record straight sound samples, and possibly make a track using those sounds or let someone else do it. That's all we can do over the interweb but if you're in PDX (Portland, OR) and you want to see my work or the work of folktek in general (Ben Houston and I) hit me (us) up...We have a proper and presentable studio and you'll be welcome to come by and see/hear some things.

A few notes:

I am not an electronics master and have never made any attempt to be one. What I'm doing here is creating sound art works...Most of it (lately especially) is concept-based, meaning I take whatever I can get my hands on and put it all together in as beautiful and presentable way as possible to manifest an idea. For example - "The Garden" is an idea - an instrument that is whole. I could have made it an effects processor for external instruments in addition to what it already is. That's not how I work...I work with these ideas and these instruments as an artist not an electronics whiz that's out to make the most patchable synth in the world or something. If I feel it's nessesary for an instrument I'll even extract function. I use some of my own circuits and perhaps a large production of instruments is on the horizon, but generally if a fully functioning and solid circuit is available to me - I'll use it.

These works here are for sale - if there's not a price, email and I'll get you one...In the words of my only foe "The work of Arius Blaze is notoriously expensive"...That's perfectly true - I won't deny it...But while there are currently (as of the moment I write this) approx. 6750406283 people in the world I have only seen maybe 10-20 (maybe) experimental electronic instrument makers and sound artists doing work in roughly a similar vein of what I do. And within that group of 10-20 people I believe my work is actually unique and clearly stands out. I hope those people are getting the support they need as well. It is expensive art I agree and probably only going to get more expensive as the shit gets crazier - which it is. That said, I'll also create more affordable things.

A couple more things:

My work is solid...In spite of what a random person I don't even know or a hater or two on the internet might say. I encourage you to see my work for yourself and decide...We build these works very solid and it gets better with each piece. There are many works I've made all over the world and I don't get complaints.

And finally, I'm also a notoriously slow shipper. Not exactly sure why it's so damn difficult for me to ship things but I think it may have to do with being attached to my work. I'm working on it and it's definitely been getting MUCH faster - as in two or three days usually...

Sorry if there's a wait - I'm doing my best here. If you can't be patient with me please don't buy work directly from me...I hate to say it and I'm sure it will deter some buyer but it's just the way it is.

Co-mission work:

Co-mission work is currently underway, please read the commission details page to see what's really the deal with that. Downstairs here there is a list of current co-mission works I'm taking, if you have other ideas - hit me up. Also there are warranty details and stuff lower on this page.

Let me know if you'd like me to email you when I have something new up for sale.

Check up on the changes and arrangements page for the dated list of newly added devices and info that may otherwise go unseen - starting October 2007.

The main page for my sound art devices is the sound art page - please have a look.

There are some sculptural things in the works so there will be a new section added to the site in the coming months.

Thank you endlessly for the support!

selling/warranty info:

6 month warranty on all devices folktek or mine. Will fix anything within reason - my decision. I do not take returns and give refunds. period. sorry if this deters you, but it's like your boss asking you for your pay check back at the end of the month. bills get paid and money is gone. If something doesn't work properly - I'll fix it...If there's ever really some issue - I'll make you something else.

golden keys"Golden Keys"= (as co-mission)

Price = 800

A remixer, real time - time stretcher and odd sound gen.

hybrids"Hybrids"= (as co-mission)

Price Range = generally 2000-3000

Hybrids have to do with taking things that I or we offer and pulling them together into one piece.

The feedback harp for example is a conglomeration of a number of things. The time machine bug puts both together into one playable piece. The dronescape sequencer puts a bug with our magnetic sequencer. These works tend to be a lot of work and spendier as a result. If you see ideas here that you want to meld - refer to the hybrid.
